According to local legends in the Carpathian Mountains of Eastern Europe, mischievous little creatures called "Skrzaty" (pronounced SKSHEE-rah-tee) are known to be quite the pierogi fiends. These gnome-like beings, said to be no bigger than a child's hand, are known to have a sweet tooth and a penchant for pilfering dessert fillings like fruit or plums. So, the next time you lose a pierogi to an inexplicable disappearance, don't blame the dog – a Skrzat might be the culprit!
