pierogi day

Happy National Pierogi Day from the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve!

While we at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve might specialize in the strange and unusual, we also know how to appreciate a good dumpling! That's right, today is National Pierogi Day, a time to celebrate these delightful pockets of deliciousness that hail from Poland (though variations exist all over Eastern Europe).

These parcels of heaven can be filled with savory delights like potato and cheese, sauerkraut and mushroom, or even meat. But for the truly adventurous, we recommend getting in touch with your inner cryptozoologist and seeking out some more...unconventional fillings.

Did you know? According to local legends in the Carpathian Mountains of Eastern Europe, mischievous little creatures called "Skrzaty" (pronounced SKSHEE-rah-tee) are known to be quite the pierogi fiends. These gnome-like beings, said to be no bigger than a child's hand, are known to have a sweet tooth and a penchant for pilfering dessert fillings like fruit or plums. So, the next time you lose a pierogi to an inexplicable disappearance, don't blame the dog – a Skrzat might be the culprit!

Whether you stick to the classics or get daring with your fillings, here at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve, we believe there's a pierogi for everyone. So fire up the stove, channel your inner Skrzat (minus the thievery!), and celebrate this delicious day!

P.S. We hear rumors that the elusive Hidebehind of Michigan has a weakness for pierogi filled with...well, let's just say it wouldn't be on most people's menus. But hey, different strokes for different folks (or cryptids)!
