Happy National Sponge Cake Day!

We here at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve love a good reason to celebrate, and National Sponge Cake Day is no exception. This light and airy dessert is a favorite among humans and cryptids alike.

A Sponge Cake Fit for a Jackalope

Legend has it that Jackalopes, with their insatiable sweet tooth, are particularly fond of sponge cake. These rabbit-deer hybrids are known for their ability to lure unsuspecting travelers with the promise of delicious treats.  Just be sure to avoid any sponge cake you find deep in the forest – it might be a Jackalope trap!

The History of Sponge Cake

Sponge cake has a long and storied history. The first recipes for this airy treat are believed to have originated in 16th century Italy.  Back then, bakers used techniques like whipping eggs and folding in air to create a cake that was lighter than ever before. Today, sponge cake remains a popular dessert enjoyed around the world.
