Happy French Toast Day from the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve!

Here at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve, we love celebrating all sorts of holidays, even the delicious ones! And what could be more delightful than French Toast Day? This delightful day, falling on April 13th each year, is a celebration of all things French toast – its fluffy texture, its sweet and savory versatility, and its ability to bring a smile to your face.

But did you know that French toast has a long and storied history, perhaps even a touch of the mysterious? Legends say that the first recipe for French toast arose in ancient Rome, where a dish called "Aliter Dulcia" was described – bread soaked in milk and eggs, then fried. The Romans weren't the only ones with a taste for this delectable dish. Variations on French toast can be found throughout history and across the globe. In fact, there's even a spooky story from medieval Europe about a haunted inn where the ghost of a miserly knight would appear every night, demanding French toast!

Here at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve, we like to think that maybe this ghost wasn't so scary after all. Perhaps he was just a fellow French toast enthusiast! After all, who can resist a plate of this delicious breakfast (or brunch, or even dessert) treat?

So this French Toast Day, we invite you to whip up your favorite recipe, be it a classic custardy soak or something more adventurous. Maybe even try incorporating some of our local maple syrup, rumored to be made from the sap of trees tended to by friendly (and surprisingly sweet-toothed) Bigfoot residents! However you choose to celebrate, we hope you have a delicious and fun-filled French Toast Day!
