Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve Celebrates Rice Cake Day!

Here at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve, we love a good excuse for a celebration, and what better reason than Rice Cake Day? This fun, quirky holiday might not be on every calendar, but it's a delightful opportunity to appreciate these simple yet versatile snacks.

Rice cakes have a long and fascinating history, dating back thousands of years to ancient China. Made from pounded rice formed into cakes and then baked or toasted, they were a staple food for many cultures. They were seen as a symbol of purity and good fortune, and even played a role in religious ceremonies.

But wait, isn't there something...strange...about rice cakes? Their association with purity and good luck might just be the perfect food for warding off...otherworldly beings?

While we haven't had any incidents of rice cakes fending off a Hidebehind here at the Preserve (yet!), there are legends from many cultures of foods that hold mystical properties. In Japan, for instance, there's the Kappa, a mischievous water imp said to be repelled by the strong smell of wasabi. Perhaps that next time we encounter a mischievous cryptid, a strategically placed rice cake (wasabi optional) could be just the ticket!

So this Rice Cake Day, we encourage you to celebrate with a plate of these healthy treats. Maybe even get creative and jazz them up with your favorite toppings! Who knows, you might just be creating a delicious new snack that would make any cryptid reconsider its next prank.
