Tug-of-war is an ancient sport, dating back millennia. It’s been a fixture in cultures around the world, from Europe and Asia to Africa and the Americas. In fact, there’s even some evidence to suggest that a version of tug-of-war was a favorite pastime of Bigfoot himself!

According to Native American folklore, the Sasquatch – or rather, their giant cousins, the Algonquin creatures known as wendigo – would challenge human tribes to tug-of-war matches using enormous tree trunks. The winners? Well, let’s just say the wendigo weren’t exactly known for their gentle touch.
