Haberdashery Hollow Howls for Buttons! Happy Hurray for Buttons Day!

Here at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve, we celebrate all things unique and curious, and what's more curious than the humble button? Those unassuming circles of history and function hold a surprising amount of power! Today, on Hurray for Buttons Day, we raise a needle and thread (or perhaps a claw or tentacle, depending on the resident you meet) in praise of this often-overlooked marvel!

Buttons have been around for millennia, with some of the earliest examples dating back to 3000 BC! They've served not just as fasteners, but as symbols of status, social affiliation, and even magic. Did you know that in some cultures, buttons were believed to ward off evil spirits? Perhaps that's why the Jackalope here at the Preserve, with his uncanny ability to avoid capture, always has a mismatched button sewn onto his vest. Maybe it's just a fashion statement, but we wouldn't discount the protective power of a well-placed button either!

Buttons come in all shapes, sizes, and materials. Here at the Preserve, we have a vast collection (though some of the more…temperamental residents might "borrow" a button or two for their own mysterious purposes). From the gleaming shell buttons favored by the Kappa (those mischievous water imps from Japan) to the intricate bone buttons meticulously crafted by the Bonejangles (a truly fascinating, albeit noisy, group of skeletal creatures), buttons are a testament to human (and cryptid!) creativity.

So, this Hurray for Buttons Day, we encourage you to take a look at your own button collection with fresh eyes. Each button holds a story, a connection to the past, and perhaps even a touch of magic. Who knows, maybe that ornately carved wooden button you found at a flea market once belonged to a powerful sorcerer, or that chipped plastic button from your childhood jacket holds the key to a forgotten memory. The possibilities are endless, just like the variety of buttons themselves!
