Festival of life in the Cracks

Hark! The Bagpipes Moan and the Jackalopes Jitterbug for Bagpipes Day!

Here at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve, we celebrate all sorts of peculiar and obscure holidays, and Bagpipes Day is no exception! Today, the 1st of July, is a day to honor the hauntingly beautiful drone of the bagpipes and its unique place in history and folklore.

The origins of the bagpipes are shrouded in a bit of mystery, much like the creatures we house here at the Preserve. Some claim they originated in ancient Egypt, while others point to their prevalence in Celtic cultures. Regardless, the haunting melodies produced by the bagpipes have captivated (and perhaps terrified) audiences for centuries.

Here at the Preserve, we believe the bagpipes may hold a special connection to the spirit world. Legends of banshees and fairies in Celtic folklore often depict them carrying otherworldly instruments, and the sound of the pipes is said to sometimes precede other paranormal occurrences. Could the drone of the bagpipes be a bridge between our world and the unseen realms?

We here at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve wouldn't be surprised. After all, our resident Jackalope, Bartholomew, has been known to perk up his fuzzy ears whenever a tune strikes up on the pipes. Perhaps he recognizes the music from his own mystical origins?

So, this Bagpipes Day, we encourage you to embrace the mystery and the music! Put on your kilt (or your favorite pair of overalls, no judgment here), crank up the bagpipes, and celebrate the unique cultural heritage of this fascinating instrument. Just be warned, if you hear the pipes playing in the dead of night around the Preserve, it might not be the groundskeeper practicing for the annual Highland Games!
