Rocky road

Happy National Rocky Road Day from the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve!

While some might scoff at a holiday dedicated to a flavor of ice cream, here at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve, we take our desserts – and our cryptids – very seriously. After all, what's more mysterious than a giant scoop of chocolate ice cream studded with chewy marshmallows and crunchy nuts? It's a textural and tastebud adventure, not unlike encountering a Jackalope in the wild!

Here's a little-known fact: the term "rocky road" actually predates the ice cream flavor. It referred to a rough, uneven path, much like the one the legendary Jackalope might take through the dense forests it calls home. The first documented recipe for a "rocky road" dessert, a cake filled with nuts and chopped fruit, appeared in the late 19th century. It wasn't until the 1920s that William Dreyer of Dreyer's Ice Cream introduced the now-iconic version featuring chocolate ice cream, marshmallows, and nuts.

So, how does this connect to cryptids? Well, just like a Jackalope with its uncanny blend of rabbit and antelope, Rocky Road is a delightful combination of seemingly disparate ingredients. The smooth chocolate, the gooey marshmallows, the satisfying crunch of nuts – it's a harmonious union that takes us on a delightful journey, much like spotting a rare cryptid in its natural habitat.
