Guy Fawkes

A Very Guy Fawkes Day at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve

Here at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve, we celebrate all sorts of unusual holidays, and Guy Fawkes Day is no exception! This fifth of November, we remember the man, the myth, the mustachioed mastermind behind the infamous Gunpowder Plot. But why, you might ask, would a cryptozoological sanctuary commemorate a historical figure from across the pond?

Well, dear reader, there's more to Guy Fawkes Day than fireworks and bonfires. The night of November 5th commemorates the failed attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605. Fawkes, a man of strong Catholic convictions, was part of a group determined to overthrow the Protestant King James I. Their plan, forever etched in infamy, was to use a massive cache of gunpowder hidden beneath the Parliament building.

Thankfully, the plot was foiled, Fawkes was arrested, and...well, history remembers the rest. But what does this have to do with cryptids? Folklore and fiction have long blurred the lines between historical events and fantastical creatures. In some corners of the internet, you'll find whispers of spectral hounds guarding the Houses of Parliament, their howls echoing through the halls on Guy Fawkes Day, a chilling reminder of the plot that could have changed the course of history.

Here at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve, we celebrate Guy Fawkes Day with a touch of spooky whimsy. Our resident cryptozoologist, Dr. Evangeline Peabody, holds a special lecture every year detailing folklore surrounding spectral guardians and other supernatural beasts said to roam around places of power. We also encourage our visitors to dress up in their best Guy Fawkes masks (we provide plenty of cardboard cutouts!) and participate in a costume contest with a decidedly cryptid theme. Imagine a Jackalope dressed as Guy Fawkes, or a Mothman sporting a powdered wig!

So, this Guy Fawkes Day, join us at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve for a night of learning, laughter, and a healthy dose of spooky fun! Remember, just because something isn't real, doesn't mean it's not fascinating!
