Left Handers day

Left-Handers Day: A Celebration of the Unconventional

Left-Handers Day, observed annually on August 13th, is more than just a day to celebrate the unique abilities of those who write with their left hand. It's a chance to recognize the historical and cultural significance of left-handedness, which has often been shrouded in mystery and superstition.

Throughout history, left-handed individuals have been viewed with both fascination and suspicion. In ancient Rome, left-handed people were considered unlucky and even associated with evil spirits. The Latin word "sinister" means "left-handed" and also carries the connotation of being unlucky or harmful.

In some cultures, left-handedness was linked to supernatural abilities or a connection to the otherworldly. In Celtic mythology, for example, the goddess Morrígan, a powerful figure associated with war, death, and transformation, was often depicted as left-handed. This connection to the supernatural may have contributed to the fear and prejudice that left-handed people faced in certain societies.

The idea of left-handedness as a marker of something extraordinary or otherworldly has persisted in popular culture. From the sinister portrayal of left-handed villains in horror films to the belief that left-handed people are more creative or intuitive, the association between left-handedness and the unconventional has remained strong.

Left-Handers Day offers an opportunity to challenge these stereotypes and celebrate the diversity of human experience. By recognizing the unique qualities and contributions of left-handed individuals, we can foster a more inclusive and understanding society.

Filet mignon day

Celebrate Filet Mignon Day at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve!

Every June 18th, carnivores around the world celebrate Filet Mignon Day, a day dedicated to the luxurious cut of beef prized for its tenderness and flavor. But at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve, we celebrate a different kind of filet mignon... one that's a little more monstrous!

The Hidebehind: A New England Mystery

Legends of the Hidebehind have been whispered for centuries throughout rural New England. This monstrous creature is said to resemble a large bear or cow, but with a sinister twist: its entire backside is completely invisible! The Hidebehind is said to stalk its prey unseen, then deliver a fatal blow before disappearing once more.

A Hidebehind Filet? Not Quite...

While we wouldn't recommend trying a Hidebehind filet mignon (we value the safety of our visitors!), the Hidebehind serves as a reminder of the fascinating – and often terrifying – creatures that may lurk unseen in the world around us.

Join us for Filet Mignon Day!

This Filet Mignon Day, come celebrate with us at the Haberdashery Cryptid Preserve! We'll have our regular tours of the creature enclosures, keeper talks, and of course, delicious – and completely visible – food options available for purchase.

So come join us for a fun-filled day, and who knows, you might just learn something new about the extraordinary (and sometimes dangerous) creatures that share our world
